This is a great stimulating science based day for year 5 pupils directly related to the Mary Rose past and present.

The day is challenging, hands on and students will have the opportunity to go into the Mary rose museum.

Curriculum links

  • Properties and change of materials
  • Working scientifically: planning different types of science enquiries to answer questions; using a range of scientific equipment; reporting and presenting from enquiries.
  • Students will also use employability skills, problem solving, communication skills and more.

The day will involve

  • Working in a science laboratory
  • Meeting a scientist
  • Using a digital microscope
  • Handling real and replica artefacts from the Mary Rose Collection
  • Using tablets to take photographs of artefacts in the museum
  • Group presentations sharing conclusions

Information about the day

  • The day is aimed at young people in year 5 at all levels with teacher support
  • Students and teachers should bring a packed lunch that can be eaten on site
  • There is a charge of £75 per group of 6 pupils
  • Transport and parking to and from the event is the responsibility of the school.
