About Materials of the Mary Rose Science Challenge 

The next date is Wednesday 28th February 2019

The day is a challenging, hands-on and you will have the opportunity to pop into the Mary Rose Museum. It is aimed at young people in years 4, 5, and 6 at all levels with Teacher support. 

Curriculum Links 

  • Properties and changes of materials
  • Working scientifically: planning different types of scientific enquiries; reporting and presenting findings from enquiries.
  • Students will also use employability skills, problem solving, communication skills and more. 

The day will involve:

  • Working in a science laboratory
  • Meeting a scientist
  • Using a digital microscope
  • Handling real and replica artefacts from the Mary Rose Collection 
  • Using tablets to take photographs of artefacts in the museum
  • Group presentations sharing conclusions 

Great pace to the activities with a good range of different things to do. The standard of activities and teaching was excellent, it was pitched at exactly the right level. - Teacher.

Booking Details:

  • The day is aimed at young people in Years 4, 5 and 6 at all levels with Teacher support
  • Students and teachers should bring a packed lunch that can be eaten on site
  • There is a charge of £75 per group of 6 pupils
  • Transport and parking to and from the event is the responsibility of the school
