News Activate Mentoring Programme an Approved Provider Standard EBP South has been awarded the Mentoring and Befriending Approved Provider Standard from the NCVO for the Activate Mentoring Programme. The Activate Mentoring Programme provides safe and effective mentoring support to Year 10 and 11 students by carefully matching the mentee to a business mentor who meets with their student at school for an hour a week during the school year. Cath Longhurst, EBP South CEO said ‘The award is a testament to the dedication of our many volunteer business mentors and the hard work of our staff. It’s amazing to see the benefits to the young people first-hand and to hear how rewarding it has been for mentors. I am delighted that our programme is recognised as an Approved Provider Standard’. EBP South has over 92 mentors that support the Activate Mentoring Programme and are looking to continue to increase this over the academic year 2017/2018. The NCVO’s Mentoring and Befriending Assessor said ‘It [the Activate Mentoring Programme] has a well organised and structured approach to supporting vulnerable young people to overcome the challenges they are experiencing with their education, and mentoring with a future focus.’ ‘The project has demonstrated clear aims, objectives and outcomes, and has strengths in its analysis of student need, risk management, and matching of volunteer mentors and mentees.’ EBP South’s Activate Mentoring Programme has continued to grow from strength to strength. Due to the programme’s success it received additional funding earlier this year to expand the programme to more schools across The Solent. Following research from ‘EY’ and ‘MENTOR’ and awareness campaigns outlining the benefits to the business, the mentor and the mentee; more businesses and professionals are now mentoring that before.
