Young people aged 10 – 16 took part in the range of interactive activities at Get Inspired Southampton 2017.

Over 400 people attended the free event at O2 Guildhall Southampton with young people commenting ‘It’s the first time I have come to anything like this. I enjoyed the activities and finding out about the companies.' Lisa aged 14.

Companies across Southampton were invited to showcase their company and industry through an activity to give young people and their parents an idea about future career options.

Activities included flying in an air ambulance through virtual reality; constructing a prism with spaghetti and marshmallows; making an ice cream sundae; and getting a photo of graduating from university.

Sotira Georgiou, a Design Engineer from Ramboll said 'The children were greatly involved in the activities and were asking lots of questions about their future. It was obvious that they thoroughly enjoyed it!’

Parents found the event was very informative as they themselves discovered careers and pathways they were not aware were available for their children.

Karen Hayes, a parent said, ‘Thank you for putting this on. It's been brilliant. I didn't know many of these companies existed or the career opportunities there are.’

Get Inspired Southampton is an annual event for exhibitors and attendees that couldn’t take place without the Sponsors: Ford, HSBC and Southampton City Council.
