News It's National Volunteers' Week It is National Volunteering Week from 1st June – 7th June. Charities, social enterprises and organisations are thanking their amazing volunteers and celebrating volunteering. This year the focus is on volunteering for all – celebrating the huge range of people who give their time in so many ways. There are 100’s of different ways that people can volunteer from one off beach cleans to mentoring a young person. In Portsmouth, Southampton and the surrounding areas alone on the do-it.org website there is over 1070 volunteering opportunities. The main reason people volunteer is because they want to be able to give back and the reward they get from doing so is invaluable. Volunteering as a Gig Buddy, Community Gardner or being a Trustee and being able to see they are making a difference to someone/peoples lives or a community is a feeling that you can’t get elsewhere. Organisations will be part of the national campaign; sharing pictures of their volunteers, tweeting about volunteers for all and placing young volunteers in the spotlight. Volunteering week is a chance to celebrate volunteering and thank all the wonderful people that volunteer across the community. Ian Saynor, EBP South Contracts Manager, said ‘Thank you to our volunteers they are at the centre of our work. EBP South has a range volunteer opportunities including Business Ambassadors, Mentors and Trustees with over 650 volunteers. In addition, over 3000 businesses volunteer their time and support by offering work experience, LEAP Programmes and attending inspirational events.’ ‘Without our volunteers, both individuals and businesses, we wouldn’t be able to run these amazing programmes that give young people the essential opportunities that connect them to the world of work.’ If you would like to find out about volunteer opportunities in contact your local volunteer organisation, contact charities directly, or you can look on the national website Do-it.org.
