News EBP South Amazing People Awards Winners EBP South Amazing People Awards The EBP South Amazing People Awards celebrated the dedication of businesses, schools and volunteers to connecting young people to the world of work; young people were awarded for their achievements through the careers and work opportunities that they had participated in. The prestigious evening brought together a variety of representatives from across the business and educational community on Tuesday 27th November 2018 at 2000 Lakeside North Harbour. This year 45 businesses, volunteers, schools and students were shortlisted from across the South Coast with 15 winners and 5 students recognised for their achievements. The Awards gave an opportunity for the people across the Solent region to hear about the ways businesses have been proactive in giving up their time to support young people; and Volunteers who have been selfless in giving up their time to be a Business Ambassadors or Mentors. The stars of the awards, that stole the show, were the students. Their achievements highlighted the positive outcomes of projects that connect young people to the world of work. One of the students had won an award for his achievements through mentoring. He had progressed personally and academically by overcoming several challenges to perform above expectations. Cath Longhurst Basingstoke Consortium and EBP South CEO said ‘The evening was a celebration of the amazing work of businesses, volunteers and schools that have supported young people with their future; helping to raise their aspirations and inspire them into the vast range of careers available.’ ‘It was an inspirational to hear the stories about how young people’s lives have been put on track through the support of businesses and volunteers.’ Simon Howlett won the final award, EBP South Amazing People Longstanding Achievement Award, for his continued support to connecting young people to the world of work. Through his work with EBP South he has supported over 2300 young people aged 11 – 16. Simon Howett’s Mentee said, “We mainly focus on the here and now but he is helping me past that point and so I can continue with a career and success in the future." EBP South thanked all the 2205 business and volunteers that gave 57, 946 hours to connect 16,167 young people through career inspiration events, employability workshops, employer engagement activities, mentoring, work experience placements and extended work experience placements. As well as recognising and thanking all the other businesses and volunteers across the Solent region that give young people opportunities to the work place. The winners at the EBP South Amazing People Awards were: Embecosm won the Amazing Business of the Year in a Long-Term Partnership with a School sponsored by Hampshire Chamber of Commerce. SSE won the EBP South Amazing Large Business who Supports Career Education Sponsored by EBP South. Hudson Blake won the EBP South Amazing SME who Supports Career Education sponsored by University of Portsmouth Business School. BAM Construction - Gower South for University of Southampton won the EBP South Amazing Business promoting Careers in STEM sponsored by Portsmouth Water. Mountjoy Ltd and City Catering Southampton won the EBP South Amazing Business Involved in Hosting or Participating Work Experience sponsored by Lakeside North Harbour. Paul Mitchell, from BAE Systems won the EBP South Amazing Business Ambassador sponsored by Kingfisher. Colin Young MBE won the EBP South Amazing Mentor sponsored by Kingfisher. GFM: Gomer Junior School won the EBP South Amazing Educational Establishment of the Year sponsored by BAE Systems. Maison Way from Portchester School, Cameron King, Admiral Lord Nelson School, Kai Goddard from Miltoncross School, Melissa Auld from Castle View Academy and Fred Simms from The Polygon School won the EBP South Amazing Student(s) of the Year sponsored by Wartsila, Portsmouth College & BAM. Students Stephen Tang, Millie Herbert, Alice Johnson, Archie Harkins and Wade Stickland were recognised for their achievements. Simon Howlett won the EBP South Amazing People Longstanding Achievement Award.
