Sean is a Year 11 student from Aldworth School in Basingstoke.
He was referred to the Supported Work Experience Programme by his school who wanted us to find him a placement that would help build his confidence and support him with his choices post 16.
During the initial meeting Sean expressed that he was interested in having the opportunity to undertake a hands on placement in the local area.
We contacted Espokes, who are an independent family run specialist electric bike shop, based in Basingstoke, Hampshire and Wincanton Somerset. The friendly family team of Laura, Lucrezia and Howard invited Sean in for an interview where he was able to find out about all aspects of the business and have a tour of his work placement before he started.
During his interview Sean expressed an interest to help Howard who runs the servicing, repair and maintenance department.
“Sean has been enthusiastic and punctual and has proven himself to be a quick learner. Since starting his placement he has assisted with ebike servicing, performed a test ride, identified problems and also diagnosed some computer issues for the team.”
“I was really nervous on the first day, but the team were really nice and helped me settle in quickly. I have really enjoyed learning about all the different types of ebikes and working on them in the workshop. The placement has given me an interest in bikes again and has motivated me to order the parts to try and fix my own bike.”
“Sean has been really excited about doing this placement. When he is back in school, he wants to talk about his work, and now feels valued and supported. He is really interested and engaged in the placement and this is reflected in school where he is more focused.”
