Inspiring STEM 2023, in partnership with Southampton City Council - Schools

Inspiring STEM Logo with Partner Landscape

Our Inspiring STEM event is new for 2023. This event allows young people to take part in interactive STEM activities with businesses from across Hampshire. This helps educate them about different career options and challenges perceptions about different roles. Taking place at the National Oceanography Centre, this event combines activities provided by businesses (including Insensys, AWE, DP World, Mary Rose Trust, Lenovo, Roke Manor Research, ExxonMobil) with lab activities (provided by BOC Gases and Thermo Fisher), and a NOC activity.

The aim is for young people to have fun, take part in STEM activities and at the end link the activities to STEM careers so that they can see if they might enjoy a career in that industry.

Young people will be in groups that will rotate throughout the day between the businesses. This event can help schools and young people:

  • Meet OFSTED targets.
  • Meet the CDI Framework.
  • Learn about a huge variety of careers in the area.
  • ‘Have a go’ at different skills and discover their talents.
  • Speak to employers about real jobs.
  • Be involved in quizzes and competitions to win fantastic prizes
