On the 24th January over 700 young people attended EBP South’s Get Inspired Portsmouth 2024, in partnership with The Guildhall Trust and Barratt Developments plc. The event allowed young people to learn about careers in their local area by engaging with a range of businesses from different industries.
Megan Hamlyn, Marketing Manager at Barratt Developments PLC said “Great event. It was fantastic to engage with students and understand what career paths they are wanting to pursue and how we can assist them in doing so.”
The event, which was also sponsored by BAE Systems Maritime and Southern Co-operative, featured 30 businesses provided interactive activities including Constructing a Reservoir, Virtual Welding, Shipwreck Science, Get Into Theatre, Safety on Site, Guess the Generators and a Wave Tank Demonstration. The activities aimed to help young people learn about the wide variety of career opportunities in their local area.
Liam Gallagher from Priory School said it was “A really great event. Employers were knowledgeable and made it interesting. Lots of activities which were engaging and kept the students’ attention.”
Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Cllr Tom Coles, said “It has been so lovely to see so many children and young people come and get involved with a wide range of people from different industries and open up their ideas about what they can do when they grow up. They’re learning about different roles within the industries which they might not have thought of before. I think it’s a brilliant idea.”
