Inspiring future curiosity – Primary Schools’ STEM Fair brings together 9 businesses to create a day of discovery for over 50 students.

On 01 July 2026, Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke was transformed into a vibrant hub of STEM challenges. Nine local businesses delivered an exciting, creative, hands-on day of discovery for over 50 students, with a simple mission: to inspire young people about the world of work.

Hosted in partnership with AWE, the STEM event was designed to inspire curiosity and unlock future possibilities. Students rotated through a series of interactive, hands-on experiences, working collaboratively to tackle challenges such as:

  • Write your name in DNA: Using string, beads and amino acid bases.
  • Sphero Robots: Coding robots to navigate the delivery of a brand-new toy.
  • SOS: Ambulance Service introduction and take part in resuscitation exercises.
  • Blast Off: Engineering and launching high-flying rockets.
  • Get Techy: Challenge your mind with interactive computer quizzes.
  • Laser Tag: Put the physics of light into action.

The event drew strong support from local leaders, including Mayor Councillor Jacky Tustain, Luke Murphy MP, and Barry Smith from Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, who joined education stakeholders to champion the future of the next generation.

EBP South CEO Sammy Ward emphasized the event’s vital role in empowering young people across Basingstoke and surrounding areas:

“Basingstoke Primary Schools’ STEM Fair raises aspirations by helping young people to learn about different career paths. You can’t be what you can’t see, and this unique STEM event helps them to learn about career paths that they may not have thought about.”

The event was made possible due to support from partners AWE, sponsors Queen Mary’s College and supporters Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

Chris Daniels, Senior Manager of Responsible Business at our partner AWE, highlighted the importance of this collaboration and shared their STEM Fair experience:

“AWE is delighted to continue supporting the Basingstoke Primary Schools’ STEM Fair. Over 50 young people were able to have fun and got the chance to interact with local employers about how STEM can translate into future careers. Thank you to EBP South for organising a brilliant event.”
