EBP South held their Get Inspired Portsmouth 2023 event at Portsmouth Guildhall on the 25th of January. Over 800 students from across Hampshire attended the event to learn about different career opportunities in their local area. By taking part in interactive activities the students engaged with local businesses and developed their employability skills.
Deputy Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Tom Coles visited the event and said “It’s been great to see so many young people engaging with the wide-ranging organisations here today. You can see the spark of inspiration in them and that is invaluable. I can’t commend EBP enough.”
The event featured 40 businesses and was sponsored by BAE Systems Maritime Services and Southern Co-operative and supported by The Guildhall Trust. Activities on the day included a virtual welding experience, 3D printing, Robot Obstacle Challenge, Water Supply Challenge and Interactive Confectionary Shelf.
CEO of EBP South, Richard Kennett, said “It has been fantastic to see so many local businesses connecting with the future workforce and playing an active role in helping to bridge the skills gap. By reaching out to young people at an early age we can challenge job role stereotypes and educate them about the many different industries out there and the opportunities that are available.”
EBP South aims to connect schools and businesses, providing a range of career education activities across Hampshire, including the provision of Careers Advice and Guidance, Work Experience, Career Inspiration Events and Mentoring. Through this they help young people to increase their aspirations and make informed choices about their futures.
