Over 300 students from Test Valley attend careers event at The Army Flying Museum!
EBP South’s Get Inspired Test Valley, took place at The Army Flying Museum, Stockbridge on the 24th March 2022. Over 300 pupils from schools across Test Valley attended the event which aims to create awareness of and inspire young people about the variety of career options in the Test Valley area.
Graeme Fluellen, Assistant Head Teacher at Harrow Way Community School said “The event is great because it is so interactive. The kids were engaged by the activities and enjoyed the exciting venue.”
At the event, which was sponsored Test Valley Borough Council and CoolLED, 19 organisations provided an exciting range of hands-on activities for the young people to take part in. The activities included edible geoarchaeology, practicing debate, using the phonetic alphabet, designing dream homes, carpentry demonstrations and VR headsets. These engaging sessions gave students the opportunity to interact with different businesses and to develop their skills.
Cllr David Drew, Cabinet Lead for Community, Leisure and Tourism at Test Valley Borough Council said “I am delighted that Test Valley Borough Council is continuing its support for this Get Inspired event. Thanks to EBP South for putting it together. It is fantastic to be back in-person, networking with lots of firms and seeing so many students being inspired by the businesses they’re engaging with in the stands.”
Young people are often not fully aware of the different job roles and career paths available to them. This event allows businesses to connect with students in their local area and educate them about the careers that are on their doorstep. Jen Laidlaw, Project Manager at EBP South said “This event inspires young people to consider different career options through engaging with business professionals from their local area. It allows them to see industries which they may not have had the opportunity to interact with before.”
